Prayers for priests

Rosary meditations on the mysteries of light - Marta Przybyła

The Mysteries of Light – author: Marta Przybyła

THE BAPTISM OF JESUS IN THE JORDAN.

At our Holy Baptism Heaven opened over each of us and the words were spoken: „This is my beloved child”.

Over some of his chosen sons the Father said something more: „This is my beloved son, whom I call to the priesthood, to bring Heaven down to earth. So that, just as at the moment of his Baptism the light of mercy poured into his soul, he too may receive the power to forgive sins on earth. With him I am well pleased.”

In this mystery we ask you, Mary, to obtain the grace of courage to answer a priestly vocation in times when the Church is dragged through the mud and scandals are inflated, while no one sees how much beauty and goodness there is in her. Give the grace to come through their crises to those who stand at the edge of the abyss, who see no way out of their situation, who dwell on what they have given up and have begun to doubt whether they are on the right road. In a special way hold close those who struggle with addictions, with impurity, with unhealed wounds, with the temptation to leave the priesthood, with the temptation to take their own life.

THE WEDDING AT CANA

The wedding at Cana was accompanied by the first miracle. One rarely hears of a priest walking on water, multiplying food parcels at Caritas, or raising the dead instead of conducting a funeral. He does something far greater- he changes bread into the beating Heart of God.

From the moment of his ordination the Church becomes the priest's wife, his bride, to whom he has vowed himself for ever. In sickness and in health, for better and for worse. Sooner or later there will come the experience of human loneliness, of temptation, of infatuation. Yes… priests too go through this state, which is something natural. The moment of receiving the habit does not reset sexuality or the desire for fatherhood. Yes, yes, they knew what they were letting themselves in for. They knew, but they are still flesh-and-blood human beings. And so I ask you, Mary, obtain for your sons the grace of purity, of not arguing with temptation, of perseverance, of prayer, and of shutting themselves in your most pure Heart as in a safe when the trial comes.

Woman who has „pull” in heaven, if emptiness appears in the hearts of priests, run to Jesus to tell him that those called to catch people have run out of faith, hope and love.

THE PROCLAMATION OF THE KINGDOM AND THE CALL TO CONVERSION

Jesus, you say that conversion is a process and hard work to the end of one's life. You are not in favour of a stress-free upbringing, for although all things are lawful, not all things are beneficial. You warn us against sin as against poking our fingers into a socket, „don't do that, because you will suffer”. Leave sin behind, change, or there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mary, obtain the grace to proclaim, in the power of the Holy Spirit, the true Gospel and not a plush one. That they may have the power to set hearts on fire, that their speech may be „yes yes, no no”, and their deeds may match the words spoken from the pulpit.

THE TRANSFIGURATION ON MOUNT TABOR

Jesus, you took with you Peter, James and John- those whom you wanted. You were transfigured before them, radiating a light not of this world, filling them with wonder. Again the voice of the Father was heard” This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to him”

Mount Tabor was to strengthen the disciples for the time when another Mountain would come- of passion and death. Golgotha.

Mary, we ask you to strengthen priests in moments of trial, suffering and temptation. We pray for those sunk in grave sins, entangled in addictions, sunk in depression. May the Holy Spirit remind them of all those moments of spiritual consolation, when they wanted to move mountains for your Son. The difficult but finally victorious time in the seminary. The first cassock, in which they proudly looked at themselves in the mirror. The diaconate. The ordination, when they lay prostrate with no doubt that they were in the place where they were meant to be. The first confession heard, the first consecration… May they discover anew their worth and their identity.

THE INSTITUTION OF THE EUCHARIST AND OF THE PRIESTHOOD

„Do this in memory of me.” Jesus, you gave priests the power to consecrate bread and wine. You come in the power of the Holy Spirit, who at the moment of consecration overshadows the priest, as he overshadowed Mary at the annunciation. You are so humble that you come even when the shepherd is not in a state of sanctifying grace. Even when he lacks tenderness as he lays your Heart on the paten, and even when he lacks faith that you are really here…

Mary, you brought Christ to the world only once; priests bring him to the world at every Holy Mass.

Through your intercession we want to give thanks for every vocation, thanks to which Baptism takes place, and the blessing that goes unappreciated, the marriage witnessed, the sacrament of anointing, confession and every Holy Mass. In this decade we give you all priestly hearts throughout the world, that they may give themselves to your Heart, for all the great priests who moved the crowds were fools for you.
