Prayers for priests

Daily union of the priest with Christ the Servant (...)

Lord Jesus Christ, my only master, who called me already in my mother's womb, drew me after you, made me your beloved disciple and brought me to this moment of perseverance in my holy vocation.

Out of love for the Father, in the Holy Spirit, you humbled yourself in obedience to his will, emptied yourself even unto death on the cross, and were exalted in the glory of the Resurrection.

Receive me, too, wholly into your service today, that I may follow your footsteps ever more perfectly. Out of love for you, for the salvation of my brothers, of those close to me and of the whole world, I accept my cross: the service, the toil and the sufferings of this day, with faith and hope that through all of it I may prove to be your servant, and that even in what goes amiss and comes to nothing I may share in your saving cross and in your victory.

Conquer in me my selfishness, my ambition and my self-will. Lead me by your way alone. Do not let me waste time and strength on what would not be your will, by which you lead me to the fullness of salvation and life, as you led Mary, your Mother, the handmaid of the Lord, who gave herself to you entirely.

Do not let me avoid the tasks that put my weakness to the test, but grant that I may take them up with faith and hope that it is the Holy Spirit who has anointed me for them and sent me.

Do not let me flee from the people who need me, nor take up with myself the people whom I need. Grant that I may serve them with generous devotion as I would serve you yourself, who come to me in them, and that I may be for them, consciously and wisely, a sign of your presence and of your infinite love that longs to set us free.

Above all, do not let me be torn away from you, who in all of this await my cooperation.

Keep me by the power of your Spirit in your love to the very end, through faithful sharing in your „unceasing prayer” and in the Eucharistic Sacrifice, the offering of my whole self to the Father with you in the Holy Spirit. Amen.
